07 Feb JaNae Martin Featured in Legal Management article on DEIA

The H+A team is starting the year off right in the press! As we’ve written before, JaNae plays an active role in her professional organization, the Association of Legal Administrators. This month, her continuing commitment to DEIA was spotlighted in an article published in Legal Management, the official magazine of ALA.

The article, titled “Navigating DEIA Pushback,” focuses on how law firms can persist in prioritizing diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) in the face of setbacks large and small. JaNae calls on her fellow legal administrators to recognize their role in the pursuit of progress and equity in the workplace. The author spotlights this direct quote from JaNae: “As legal administrators, we must see ourselves as the gateway, the starting point to a more diverse and inclusive legal profession. … Take this task seriously and know that your voice matters.”

The author goes on to list a few of JaNae’s suggestions for how legal administrators can make change in their firms and beyond. One of the key actions is communicating “the benefits of successful diversity efforts and how they deepen the firm’s talent, experience and capabilities.” We aim to take JaNae’s advice in this very blog post by highlighting her role as a national leader on diversity issues. We are so proud of her contributions to this article, to ALA as a whole, and to our greater community.

As we go into the new year, we hope to be part of the progress and not the pushback that this article mentions. Helmers + Associates values all parts of DEIA and is committed to fighting for fair and equal treatment in the legal system.
