17 Sep Divorce & Mortgage Debt – Sometimes it Comes to David vs. Goliath

Family law attorneys need to be prepared for everything. Though family court is usually confined to divorce, maintenance, child support, and custody, the family home can often become the focal point of a divorce, as well. Divorce & mortgage debt are generally fairly straightforward issues, but every now and then, things gets out of control, as the story of one of our favorite clients demonstrates. This paralyzed veteran’s wife took out an unauthorized loan against the home he had paid-for years prior with his veteran’s benefits. Giant Citibank wanted to hold him responsible for the debt, but we fought for the moral result, and the irresponsible ex-wife is now the one owing.
